The U.S.–Israel conflict with Iran began on February 28, 2026.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Alamo Chapter 1836 has launched an effort to honor and memorialize PFC Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, Texas.  She was KIA on July 17, 2026, during an Iranian missile attack on Muwaffaq Air Base in Jordan.  Gonzales was nineteen years old. 

As of October 17, 2026, at least 21 U.S. military personnel have been KIA and 865 WIA in the war with Iran.  PFC Gonzales enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 2025. She had been assigned to the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense command since January 2026.

Our chapter proposes adding a paver at our Purple Heart Memorial in honor of this young soldier.  The memorial is located on the grounds of the Bexar County Courthouse at 300 Dolorosa St. in downtown San Antonio.  We have met with county officials and will take other steps necessary to ensure that this effort becomes a reality.
